Continuous emission monitoring (CEMS) involves the sum of different analyzers and applications to determine and report pollutant emissions from stationary sources. Coal and Oil-fired power plant, Municipal and hazardous waste incinerators, cement plants, Kraft pulp mills, as well as many other types of industrial sources are required to monitor emissions on a continual basis.

The emissions data obtained provide a continuous record used by environmental control agencies to support a variety of regulatory programs. Pollution control equipment and CEMS systems are used to determine compliance of stationary sources.

The standard CEMS system consists of a sample probe, Filter, Sample line, Gas conditioning system, calibration gas stream and a series of gas analyzers. Typical monitored emissions include: Sulfur dioxide, Nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, volatile organic compounds and oxygen.
